To create a simple DIY rainwater collection system using trash cans, start by ensuring the first trash can has a screen to prevent mosquito breeding. This can be achieved by using an old window insect screen or drilling holes in the lid. Additionally, drill holes on the side of the can to maintain the water level below the screen. If you want to expand the system, connect multiple trash cans by drilling holes on the sides slightly smaller than the diameter of PVC pipes. Push the PVC pipes through the holes to create a connection. Please see below for a comprehensive list of tools and items needed for this project, have a great day! Goodbye.
